32 Non-profit organisations: Epic has supported 51 non-profits since its inception, mobilising more than $65m from corporate and individual donors. 70% of the charities surveyed say Epic’s support has been “transformational”; 82% reported a greater financial sustainability, and over 60% said it has helped them to plan further into the future. As one non-profit says “Epic’s high level of unrestricted funding has provided a level of security and sustainability to enable [us] to try new things and grow as an organisation.“ On the donor side, if Epic endeavours to “make giving the norm” the impact study shows that Epic donors give better (80% have more trust in their giving thanks to Epic), smarter (70% believe their giving has more impact through Epic’s intermediary) and more in value (Epic has brought new donors to giving, or triggered first time donors). What is next for Epic? Epic has 3 big innovations in progress. They are: 1) Climate Change strategyAfter eight years of proven impact with “Children and Youth” non-profits, Epic launched a new “Climate Change and Environment” strategy. Based on people-centric philanthropy Epic selected three initial non-profits in December 2022 focused on clean energy, reforestation and regreening, and ocean biodiversity. 2) Epic Lab Epic is pushing its Epic Lab to source new giving solutions and scale them to further boost social innovation and creative ways to “make giving the norm.” 3) Open source model Epic is working on franchising its model of open source to other geographies not yet covered by Epic. Interview with Epic Who can I give to? How do I know this charity is more or less impactful than this other charity? Epic faced the same dilemma as investment funds and the same search for high returns. In Epic’s case, high returns mean more lives better impacted and more change better implemented on climate change. So Epic’s methodology incorporated the due diligence approach from investments into its non-profit selection and monitoring which resulted in: 3 main criteria, 15 KPIs, 45 data points. Q: How does Epic track and report its impact? A: Epic monitors its impact on two populations: on the non-profits it backs and finances, and equally on the donor community it brings together. In 2021 Epic commissioned two impact studies from two independent expert consultancies. And the results were impressive.
